Circa does not require an account, your real name, an email address or any other contact details to play. This policy explains what data the app and the services it relies on collect, and why.
If you choose to appear on a global leaderboard (the Daily Challenge or Survival), you can enter a nickname. It is stored on our servers and shown publicly next to your score. You never have to use your real name.
Circa generates a random ID on your device to submit and identify your leaderboard entries. It is not linked to your Apple Account. So that your progress (streaks, best scores, hints and streak freezes) survives reinstalling the app or moving to a new phone, it is backed up to your device's Keychain, and to iCloud Keychain if you use it. That backup stays within Apple's systems; it is not sent to our servers.
We collect data about how the app is used, such as games started and completed, scores, hints used, screens viewed, notifications tapped, and interactions with the store and with rewarded videos. These events are sent with an app-specific identifier provided by iOS (not the advertising identifier), your device model, iOS version, app version and language settings. Our analytics provider estimates an approximate location (city and country) from your IP address. We use this data only to understand and improve the game, not to identify you.
Circa sells optional packs of hints and streak freezes. Payments are processed entirely by Apple; we never see or store your payment details. The app receives a record of the transaction from Apple so it can deliver what you bought, and we record which pack was purchased, its price and its currency in our analytics.
Circa offers optional videos you can choose to watch in exchange for a hint or a streak freeze. A video only plays when you tap to watch one; there are no banner ads or ads that interrupt the game.
These videos are provided by Google AdMob. When you ask to watch one, Google and its advertising partners may collect information such as your IP address, device type and operating system, information about the app, and how you interact with the ad, and may use cookies or similar technologies. They use it to deliver ads, measure their performance and prevent fraud. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Circa does not ask for permission to track you across other companies' apps and websites. Because of that, neither we nor Google receive your device's advertising identifier.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Circa asks for your consent through Google's consent form before any ad is requested. You can decline, and you can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings → Ad Privacy Choices.
Mixpanel processes our analytics on our behalf, in accordance with its privacy policy.
Leaderboard scores and display names are stored using Supabase, a secure cloud database. This data is used only to run the leaderboards.
AdMob provides the optional rewarded videos described above, under Google's privacy policy.
Apple processes in-app purchases, provides iCloud Keychain backup if you use it, and delivers the app's notifications. Daily reminders are scheduled on your device; we do not send push notifications from a server.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not share your data with anyone beyond the services listed above.
Circa is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Watching videos is always optional, and appearing on a leaderboard never requires your real name. You can ask us to delete your leaderboard entries and display name, or ask any question about your data, by emailing us. Leaderboard data is kept for as long as the leaderboards run, unless you ask us to delete it.
If this policy changes, we will update it on this page and change the date at the top.
